Police allege a woman was strangled and bashed with a frying pan in a domestic assault which has led to a man being refused bail in a hearing at the Christchurch District Court.
Reece James Dick-Durham, an unemployed 25-year-old, was remanded in custody to February 1 after a hearing before Judge Stephen O’Driscoll today, three days after his arrest.
Defence counsel Linda Drummond applied for his release on bail on two charges of injuring the woman with intent to cause grievous bodily harm, and assaulting the same woman using a glass as a weapon.
Police allege the incident took place at 8pm on Monday night in Christchurch.
It is believed the woman was hospitalised with a possible fracture to an eye socket, a cut to the head, bruising to the arms, and fractured and dislocated fingers. At the time of Dick-Durham’s arrest, police alleged the woman had been struck with a frying pan.
Dick-Durham has entered no pleas to the charges.
