A second man has denied a charge of importing methamphetamine from Mexico in an airfreight consignment of safety lights.

Michael Harrison Cooper, 31, was charged with importing methamphetamine with a potential street value of $50 million, and possession of methamphetamine for supply in November, and pleaded not guilty to both charges in the Christchurch District Court today.

Defence counsel Pip Hall QC said he would not go ahead with the expected electronically monitored bail application today as police said the investigation was still on-going.

Judge Alistair Garland remanded Cooper in custody to appear by video-link from the Christchurch Men’s Prison on January 22.

His alleged co-offender, 25-year-old Johnathon James Seal, had already pleaded not guilty to the same charges and is in custody for an electronically monitored bail application on the same day.
